MY STORY

I found the experience of breastfeeding my infant(s) to be clinically and emotionally complex. I had amazing support from my family and friends, but there was limited infrastructure to support me as I transitioned back to the workforce as a pumping mother.

Beyond the struggles of caring for a newborn infant while balancing career responsibilities, I was shocked at how limited the options were for women who needed to occasionally or exclusively pump breast milk.  While my company offered private rooms during the workday, I had no option to stay close to the action during trade shows, company meetings, holiday parties, team dinners, or other important events. I’d skip events entirely or would spend most of my time at events trying to find space to pump and store my milk.

I desperately wanted to remain dedicated to my career and social, but going to off-site meetings, weddings, dinners, concerts and sporting events was incredibly inconvenient and uncomfortable, so I avoided most of these events at a time when I craved socialization the most.  Or I did what many nursing caregivers do: I attended events and then pumped in cars, airport bathrooms, storage rooms, and shared rooms with complete strangers.

I know we can better accommodate nursing caregivers, and I'm committed to that mission.

I am passionate about supporting nursing caregivers, whether by educating those around them about the process of breastfeeding and ways to support these people or by bringing mobile pumping accommodations to events so nursing caregivers can remain actively engaged in corporate, community, and social events.
